The new PLAFCO material can be used as substituting Plastics in single-use products such as plastic drinking straws and wrapping materials, as well as to replace multilayer paper packaging solutions by a more stiff and more wet resistant one-layer product.
In PLAFCO process the raw paper is transformed into PLAFCO in a technology patented by PLAFCO Fibertech Oy. PLAFCO is a completely new composite material, which is 100 % sustainable and without harmful chemicals. In the Plafco process cellulose from the raw paper is dissolved and used as a binding agent for PLAFCO.
PLAFCO process glues naturally the cellulose provided by the raw material with the fibres. PLAFCO can be added into the paper recycling process where PLAFCO can enrich the paper recycling process by delivering virgin fibres and dissolved cellulose, which delivers highly active (low Zeta-Potential) fibers.
Prof. Dr. Jukka Valkama is leading the R&D Projects of PLAFCO Fibertech. He also leads the Paper Technology and Research Department within DHBW Karlsruhe. He has extended experience in the paper technology and packaging industry.
PLAFCO Fibertech has its own technology team for machine construction and production process development.
PLAFCO Fibertech Oy is established in Finland and has also a German operative arm PLAFCO Fibertech GmbH.
